When one thinks of the cannibal subgenre of horror films, one doesn’t tend to picture A-list stars being attached. After all, eating other people is not exactly a dignified dramatic activity. Well, that’s all about to change, thanks to the star studded cast of upcoming cannibal flick The Bad Batch.
Directed by Iranian-American filmmaker Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night), The Bad Batch is set in a post-apocalyptic dystopian wasteland in which a small Texas community has resorted to cannibalism. Complications ensue when one of the cannibals begins to fall in love with one of his potential meals.
Future Aquaman Jason Momoa had previously joined the cast of The Bad Batch as the aforementioned heartsick flesh eater, and he’s now officially been joined by certified megastars Keanu Reeves and Jim Carrey. Reeves will play a character named “The Dream” and Carrey will play “The Hermit.” Beyond that, not much is known about the nature and depth of their roles. Actors Suki Waterhouse (Insurgent) and Diego Luna (Elysium) are also onboard.
While it’s definitely a tad unusual to see stars of this caliber attached to a cannibal story, it’ll be interesting to see what relative strangers to horror like Reeves and Carrey do with such potentially dark material. Production on The Bad Batch begins next month.
